We know that students achieve a higher standard when they attend school regularly, the minimum acceptable level of attendance is 95%. We aim, through our clear procedures and support to monitor attendance closely and encourage students to maintain a high standard of attendance or improve their attendance where necessary. Rewarding excellent or improved attendance is a central part of our approach. We hope that the information provided on Teachernet, (
click here), will be useful to parents and students and will answer many of the questions we are often asked, such as:
Why is it important for children not to miss school?
What does the law say?
What about authorised absences?
What about holidays in term time?
What happens if my child does not attend regularly?
At what age can children leave school?
What can I do to help?
Where can I get more information?
The school’s commitment to focus on attendance is part of the National Attendance Strategy and we are working closely with representatives of both local and national government to this end.
‘Reducing absence and persistent absence is a vital and integral part of schools' and local authorities' work to:
promote children's welfare and safeguarding;
* ensure every pupil has access to the full time education to which they are entitled;
* ensure that pupils succeed whilst at school; and
* ensure that pupils have access to the widest possible range of opportunities when they leave school’Source department for Children, Schools and Families
