In September 2004 the school was designated specialists status in visual arts. Our designation as a specialist school follows 6 years of outstanding examination results in Art and Design.
Specialist status means that our school has substantial extra funding to raise whole school attainment across the curriculum by developing creativity and exciting learning activities in all subjects. Our specialist status also enables us to build on and develop new arts courses in digital media, photography, textiles, expressive arts and graphics. We are also developing our vocational courses in applied art and design.
We offer a wide range of arts activities and courses free of charge to the wider community of Batley and Birstall and are actively involved with our primary schools providing training and enrichment opportunities for staff and students. The wealth of expertise within our school and community is drawn from a wide range of sources. Batley's historic links with design and textile industries and the creative flair of our rich culturally diverse community have shaped our creative and artistic development.
