In Humanities we teach RE, Geography and History across key stage three, four and five. As well as teaching pupils individual subjects we also focus on some of the common areas between subjects and the development of important skills. From the end of year eight pupils are given some choice as to what they study and pupils follow a personalised route that gives them the best opportunity to make progress and achieve in Humanities.
In year seven and eight pupils study Geography, History and RE for five lessons per week. Some of the time in year seven is allocated to Humanities cross curricular projects: A Piece of Me, The Sacred World and Exploring Interconnectiveness. These projects help pupils develop their personal learning and thinking skills.
In year nine pupils study either Geography or History and RE all at GCSE.
Pupils continue with RE into year 10 and take the full course exam at the end of the year.
Pupils then have the option to begin the AS Religious Studies early or study short course Citizenship.
Pupils who do not opt for Geography or History in year ten take the short course at the end of year nine.
Those who do continue either have two further years to complete the GCSE or take the GCSE at the end of year ten.
Those who take the GCSE at the end of year ten have the option to begin the AS early.
Pupils have the option to study RS, Geography and History at AS and A2 level.
