Modern Foreign Languages at Batley Girls' High SchoolAll students study French in years 7 and 8. We aim to build on the work students have begun in their primary schools and help them develop their language skills and reach their full potential.
In year 9, students can choose to continue with French or study Urdu. Some students of Urdu are fast-tracked and entered for GCSE Urdu at the end of year 9. Other students are entered for Asset Languages and achieve this qualification at the end of year 9.
In years 10 and 11, we teach both French and Urdu to GCSE level, and both French and Urdu are on offer in the sixth form at AS and A level.
In any year a mixture of learning activities are used. We have a French Assistante 2 days a week to support students, and we have a small computer room and 16 laptops. We aim to make language learning fun and use a variety of teaching methods to engage our students.
