PE at Batley Girls' High School

PE helps students develop personally and socially. They work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility. They take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating. A high-quality PE curriculum enables all students to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully.

Extra-Curricular Activities

We offer a vast range of lunch time and extra- curricular activities for students of all year groups. Clubs are open to all students and they should check the activities on offer and see regulate updates.

The success of the school netball and rounder’s teams attract particular attention as do the Cheerleading squad that regularly perform at Batley Bulls Rugby.

Key Stage 3 PE

During key stage 3, pupils become more expert in their skills and techniques, and learn how to apply them in different activities. They learn to take the initiative and make decisions for themselves about what to do to improve performance. Students decide on what makes an effective performance and how to improve. They are taught these skills through netball, rounders, dance, tennis, gymnastics and athletic activities.
Assessment is carried out through peer, self and teacher assessment and relates to the 8 levels of the National Curriculum for each specific activity. Students are also given an attitude to learning grade.

Key Stage 4 PE

Each student will follow a course offering a wide range of individual and team sports, ranging through winter and summer activities. There are several clubs and teams throughout the week both during and after school for students to attend.

All students have a personalised Curriculum as they opt into activities at the start of Year 10 and follow a structured programme for two lessons a week over two years.

Through the range of experiences that PE offers, students learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations.

Students are assessed following the GCSE/AFL assessment criteria and are graded A* -G for each activity. They are also given attitude to learning grades for each activity and actively encouraged to be aware of health, fitness and well-being issues.
