Social Science at Batley Girls' High School

The Social Sciences encompass a wide range of subjects, which can be studied at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 and lead on to a variety of career and education opportunities.

All our subjects are taught by experienced, specialist staff, who are happy to guide you throughout your programmes of study and support your learning needs.

Business is taught by Mr Bibby and Mr Gilroy and is at the cutting edge of modern business practice. The Business area has been involved in a range of exciting projects, having a tremendous record of success in Young Enterprise and Make Your mark Challenge.

Health and Social Care a Vocational ‘A’ Level is primarily taught by Miss Chamberlain, Mrs Naeem and Mrs Roberts and has a long record of success. This is an excellent option for students wishing to pursue health and care professions and involves students making many links with external agencies to develop their subject knowledge. Students do have the opportunity to pursue work experience particularly in the hospitals and visit universities to look at relating courses.

Law is a subject at the school and is taught by Mr Cooper and Mrs Loughhead. It gives students the opportunity to study the law at A level, before moving on to a range of career and Higher Education opportunities. It is an excellent choice alongside all the other Advanced level subjects in Social Science, many of which contain elements of law.

Psychology and Sociology are both taught mainly by Mr Cooper and Mrs Loughhead and give students the opportunity to learn more about themselves and the world they live in. They are excellent partner subjects, which students find challenging, interesting and innovative.

Travel and Tourism is another Vocational subject taught by Mrs Roberts and Mr Richardson. It offers a lot of choice, which means that you can tailor it to meet your skills, interests and ambitions. You get the best of both worlds by gaining a respected GCE ‘A’ Level qualification that encompasses a “real-world” vocational approach-"The Travel and Tourism Industry!”
Level 2 qualification, Cache Childcare is taught by Miss Rout, Mrs Hughes and Miss Chamberlain. It is a Vocational subject that combines work experience with classroom-based lessons. The qualification leads to either employment as a nursery assistant or further study in the childcare field.

All our subject staff would be happy to discuss social science subjects with you. Please call into the office between Rooms 9 and 10 if you have any further questions.
