Absence and Punctuality
Students are allowed into school from 8.00am and they should ensure that they arrive by 8.20am so they can access lockers before learning starts. All students need to be in tutor bases or assembly by 8.30am. As registration is a legal requirement, attendance is recorded in every lesson.
Should a student arrive late to school they must report to reception so that the late arrival can be recorded. Persistent late arrival will result in sanctions being imposed.
School will make every effort to contact parents on the first day of a student’s absence. Parents are also asked to notify us promptly if their daughter is absent from school. Upon return to school a note from parents to explain the absence is expected and this will determine whether or not the absence is authorised.
Routine medical, optical and dental appointments must be made for after school or during the holidays. In the case of an emergency/specialist appointment a letter or appointment card will need to be shown to allow your daughter to sign out of school. Under no circumstances should a student leave school without signing out and without the knowledge of the appropriate member of staff.
Should a student be ill or have an accident, every attempt will be made to contact parents. It is vital that school has an emergency contact number. Prescribed medication should not be carried around school but can be kept safely at the Wellbeing Centre.
In accordance with Government policy, parents are not entitled to take their daughters away on holiday during term time. In exceptional cases the Head may grant permission but bookings should not be made until any written permission has been given.
In the case of extended holidays where parents have failed to notify the school, then the student’s name will be removed from the School Register after a period of time. In addition the school is asked by the LA to impose a penalty of £50 for students who miss school needlessly.
