Chill Club

Chill Club is one of Batley Girls’ High Schools most popular after school clubs. It is open 3 – 5 pm, Monday to Thursday during term time, and is free to all the girls who attend the school.

We have access to an ICT suite for those wanting to do homework or for those who just want to surf the web. Others activities include an Xbox, Nintendo DS and a Wii. We have a wide range of craft activities, games, jigsaws, an air hockey table and – because the club is held in the LRC – a wide range of books and other reading material. Many girls come to the Club after the other school activities have finished at 4pm, others come just to relax and chat with friends.

The girls are happy to entertain themselves under supervision from a Chill Club co-ordinator and support staff. Free refreshments are provided as part of the Healthy Schools criteria.

Here’s what the girls say about the Club:

  • ‘It’s a brilliant place to be – really calm.’
  • ‘Chill Club was good way to meet friends when I started in Year 7.’
  • ‘It’s calm, no-one telling you what to do.’
  • ‘There’s a lot of sharing. We have to share stuff, but that’s okay.’
  • ‘I like working on the computers. I don’t get a chance at home.’
  • ‘I can finish my homework and then e-mail to my teacher.’
  • ‘I like the Wii and the Playstation.’
  • ‘The DVD’s are good – and sometimes we have a movie night!’
  • ‘I’ve made lots of new friends.’

  • ‘The activities are good. You don’t get bored.’

  • ‘The staff are good and easy going.’
  • ‘The only rules here are the ones we have worked out ourselves.’
  • ‘After a bad day you can come and relax and have a grumble if you want. It cheers you up!’
