We have been really excited to gain a new space to the Art and Design Department area in school. The Atrium space opposite the Photography Room will function as a large studio space for both our A level Photography students and our Media students, as well as a space for our new GCSE Photography course next year. Our Sixth Form Art and Photography representatives enjoyed using the new space to welcome visitors to the school at recent events, both as part of the Whole School Careers Convention, and at the Sixth Form Open Evening. We in the Art and Design team would like to thank Mrs Balmer for designing and cutting out the creative props, and 12LS for painting in the props used to liven up the Open Evening for prospective Art and Design students this year. Photography A level produces some of our most challenging and visually stimulating imagery around school.
Batley Girls’ High School resembles an art gallery, for two thirds of the year. Missing pretence and sale tags, it is a pleasure to simply walk around and take in the wide variety of work covering the walls and stair wells. Our challenge this year is photographing once displayed and protected. There is not enough wall space to display everything so additional boards are employed. What you can see here is some of our student’s work that is adorning the walls around the school. A level Photography exhibitions takes centre stage as you enter the school:
