Future Pathways: Guidance for Every Year
No matter what year your child is in, it's never too early to start thinking about and planning for her future options.
Year 11: Planning the Next Step
The primary focus in Year 11 is ensuring a smooth transition from Batley Girls’ High School to her preferred post-16 option: sixth form, college, or apprenticeship.
All Year 11 learners are offered a careers meeting with a qualified, independent, and impartial advisor to discuss their plans.
We operate an open-door policy in the Careers Room. Learners are always welcome to stop by, ask questions, or book an appointment directly with the adviser.
Year 10: Exploring Options
Individual careers meetings for Year 10 learners begin in the Summer Term.
There will also be group sessions and assemblies to guide learners through their post-16 choices.
Learners have access to their Unifrog account to explore careers, take interest quizzes, research subject ideas, and start logging activities they've completed (e.g., attending careers fairs or webinars).
Years 7, 8, & 9: Discovering Strengths
This is a key time for learners to identify what they enjoy and excel at and begin exploring how these interests link to potential jobs and careers.
They can use their Unifrog account for career information, subject inspiration, quizzes, and to log any virtual careers activities they attend.
Specific Guidance for Year 9
In Year 9, the focus is on helping learners prepare for their GCSE choices:
SEND Transition Support
There is dedicated support for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The careers adviser attends SEND transition reviews in Years 8, 11, 12, and 13 where appropriate.
