Headteacher's Blog - Edition 10

Happy New Year to all and we are of course excited to start this new term following the recent holiday. Attendance and punctuality remain our key focus and we appreciate the support of all parents and carers in ensuring our learners attend school every day and arrive on time. Establishing these routines will lead to positive habits over the year and we know that high attendance (over 98%) results in excellent outcomes and progress.

The points below summarise the information shared with learners this week.

Academic & Curriculum Updates

  • Introducing ‘ELEVATE’ Curriculum: Learners in Years 7–9 are beginning the new ELEVATE curriculum. It is essential that learners check the daily timetable, as Week 2 sessions are currently underway.

  • Literacy Expectations: These are reinforced in lessons and relate to high standards for written work expected, including neat presentation, correct punctuation, and use of purple pen for corrections. Teachers are awarding "Reading Awards" for excellence in these areas.

Attendance & Achievement

  • The Link to Success: The school emphasises a strong connection between high attendance and exam results. Parents are encouraged to contact group tutors or achievement leaders if there are any issues affecting their child’s attendance.

Personal Development & Community

  • Community Spirit: Learners will be encouraged to compete in "Community Challenges," such as this week's Riddle Race, to earn points for their respective houses.

Looking Ahead: BG6 College

  • Post-16 Options: Year 11 learners have been reminded of the need to complete their destination questionnaire to help us guide them onto appropriate post 16 courses. One of which is of course our own provision in BG6.
